The Velvets (engl. Die Samtenen) war eine amerikanische Doo-Wop-Gruppe aus Odessa in West-Texas. Das afroamerikanische Quintet wurde 1959 von Virgil Johnson, einem Englischlehrer an der Highschool, mit vier seiner Schüler gegründet.<ref>[{{
