Granowski war Professor für Geschichte an der Moskauer Universität und gilt als Begründer der russischen Mediävistik. Sein Freund Alexander Herzen setzte ihm in seinen Lebenserinnerungen ein Denkmal. Granowski war auch mit Stankewitsch und Ogarjow befreundet.
