Echion (Sparte)

Echion (Vorlage:GrcS, von {{#invoke:Vorlage:lang|flat}}) ist in der griechischen Mythologie einer der fünf überlebenden Sparten (Spartoi, ‚gesäte Männer‘), die aus den von Kadmos gesäten Drachenzähnen entstanden.<ref>Bibliotheke des Apollodor 3,4,1; Hyginus, Fabulae 178; Ovid, Metamorphosen 3,126.</ref>

Echion wurde für seine große Tapferkeit von Kadmos als Schwiegersohn ausgewählt. Mit der Tochter des Kadmos, Agaue, ist er Vater des Pentheus.<ref>Bibliotheke des Apollodor 3,4,2; Ovid, Metamorphosen 3,513; Pausanias 9,5,2.</ref> Bei Ovid erbaut er mit Kadmos zusammen Theben, wo er einen Tempel für Kybele errichtet.<ref>Ovid, Metamorphosen 3,330; 10,686.</ref>
